A New Book Showcases Contemporary Hamptons Design

By Patrick Wilson

While the Hamptons are famous for quaint villages and Shingle Style homes, the area has also long been a showcase for modern design. A new book from the Monacelli Press, Design in the Hamptons , curates the best examples of contemporary interiors on the East End and thoughtfully highlights the inspiration and impact of the area's style evolution.

The author, art critic Anthony Iannacci, draws a parallel between the design resurgence in the Hamptons and concurrent historically minded reinventions in New York City. The preservation of Manhattan’s High Line, for example, and its repurposing as a public park, echoes the way in which designers in the Hamptons are crafting leisure spaces in tune with their history and natural surroundings. As Iannacci guides us through the 19 homes featured in the book, it is easy to fall in love with this fabled locale.

Design in the Hamptons, by Anthony Iannacci, published by the Monacelli Press, goes on sale September 9.
