Calling All Trekkies! A Life-Size Replica of the Enterprise Has Been Built in China

As rumors of an Enterprise –shaped building spread across the Internet, fans of Star Trek waited patiently for confirmation. It arrived when the building’s owner, Liu Dejian, came forward. The 43-year-old founder of the online-game development company NetDragon Websoft is a Star Trek fanatic, and he did indeed build his firm’s headquarters in the shape of the sci-fi series’ famed starship.

Located in the Chinese city of Changle, the $97 million structure was designed after the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, the model of the starship featured in three Star Trek movies: *First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis.*The version in Changle is 853 feet long, 328 feet wide, and six stories tall. Construction began in October 2010 with full permission of CBS, the copyright owner of the Star Trek franchise, and completed in May last year.
