“It’s a private work space for a budding architecture practice,” Valerie Schweitzer says of the studio she built for herself in Westport, Connecticut. “It exploits the possibilities of wood, steel and glass. The teak and stucco panels are like glacial shards protruding from the earth.”

“The challenge was to make an airy, light-filled space despite zoning restrictions of 300 square feet,” the architect says. “It has an Alice in Wonderland quality.” Artworks she created hang on the walls.
