Heal’s in London Opens a Coworking Space

By Patrick Wilson

Heal's, the enduringly well-regarded furniture and home accessories store, has been a staple of U.K. domestic life for more than two centuries. This month the retailer opened a new café and coworking space at its London flagship on Tottenham Court Road, where it has sold its diverse range of housewares since 1810.

Created in partnership with Forge & Co, a London-based company that develops shared work spaces, Forge & Co at Heal’s combines a brasserie, lounge bar, and café with private meeting rooms and a coworking area where 14 desks are available to rent by the month. Designed by the newly minted London architecture firm Moxey Associates, it features a wide selection of designs available at Heal’s, from Blu Dot’s Hot Mesh barstools to Heal’s Banbury velvet sofas and lighting by Michael Anastassiades.

“Nestled within the comforts of the Heal’s store, the new café is designed not only to be a hub within the building but also a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the West End,” says Simon Moxey of Moxey Associates. “The overall aesthetic is relaxed and comfortable, using carefully selected pieces from the Heal’s furniture and lighting range to create a classic style with a fresh, modern twist.”

It’s a busy summer ahead for Heal’s, as the retailer also prepares to open a new showroom in the Queens Building on Westbourne Grove later this month, an outpost that will cater specifically to the interior design and contract market, with an emphasis on lighting fabrics, and wallpapers.
