Michael Bruno Launches Housepad App

By Patrick Wilson

Designers have long gifted happy homeowners with fat three-ring binders upon a job’s completion—a hefty user’s manual of sorts documenting the proper arrangement of throw pillows, care of surfaces, and value of antiques. But more often than not, the tome is promptly stuffed out of sight to gather dust. Now, 1stdibs founder and self-proclaimed “house junkie” Michael Bruno has launched Housepad, an app that aims to put all of that information and more at users' fingertips.

Using Housepad, homeowners can work with interior designers to keep a log of everything in the house, from copies of invoices to warranties, cutting down on easy-to-lose papers and making oft-forgotten details—“Who designed the dining chairs?”—easy to access. Beyond cataloguing, the app offers a host of capabilities for the day-to-day household management. Users can keep a master shopping list that can be ordered directly from Amazon with one click. They can assign a to-do item by sending a snapshot and message to family members or staff. The program even syncs to Nest thermostats and Handy, an online service that will send a plumber or repair person at a moment’s notice.
