Now Anyone Can Take a Class with Frank Gehry

By Patrick Wilson

Ever wondered what it would be like to study with one of the world's most celebrated architects? Well, it just might be easier than you think: The digital education platform MasterClass announced plans today for a Frank Gehry –taught seminar, launching in TK. MasterClass, which was founded in San Francisco in 2015, aims to broaden access to education by streaming classes online for a reasonable fee (all of the company's courses cost $90 each). Gehry's classes, the architect's first foray into digitally streamed education, will span case studies, model design, and architectural history for a comprehensive look at the design process as a whole and a reflection on Gehry's own trailblazing career.

“I have tried to give the students insight into my process—how and why I did things," said Gehry in an official announcement. "I hope this gives them the wings to explore and the courage to create their own language.” Gehry, recipient of the Pritzker Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among many other accolades, joins an impressive roster of MasterClass instructors, including Christina Aguilera, Gordon Ramsay, Shonda Rhimes, Aaron Sorkin, Kevin Spacey, and Serena Williams. We'd call that learning from the best.
