PPG Paint’s 2019 Color of the Year is a Gorgeous Green
We’re halfway through 2018, and you know what that means? It’s time to start trend forecasting for 2019. Just yesterday, Sherwin Williams shared their color forecast for 2019, but PPG Paints is taking it one step further and announcing their pick for the Color of the Year.
So what shade do they predict will reign supreme next year? Night Watch, a deep, almost jade-like green.
Night Watch is evocative of the lush greens you find in nature, something that attracted PPG’s global color experts to the shade.
“The urge to reconnect with nature is driven by today’s tumultuous, still somewhat rebellious, always-connected society. Empty space in our lives—such as downtime waiting for a bus or lulls in conversation—tends to be filled with the use of our smartphones and devices.,” said Dee Schlotter, PPG’s senior color marketing manager. “Being surrounded by Night Watch can give some of that empty space back by pulling our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming, invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature.”
She also believes the color’s connection to nature makes it a particularly good choice for areas that lack outdoor access or views, like windowless hallways.
But if you’re not ready to commit to painting an entire hallway or room such a rich shade, Night Watch works just as well as an accent color, and is an ideal choice for a fireplace or focal wall.
Dee also believes the color will work well with other of-the-moment design trends, like gilded touches and the now-iconic Millennial pink.
“To draw on the luxurious impact of Night Watch we see consumers pairing the color with gold or brass accents, like picture frames, tabletop decor, legs on furniture, or even drawer pulls,” Dee explained. “For complementary hues, Millennial pink or pebble gray, such as PPG’s Whiskers or Moth Gray colors, pair well with the shade.”
The choice of Night Watch continues PPG’s streak of picking moodier shades for its official Color of the Year. In 2018, they recognized Black Flame , a combo of black and deep indigo, as the trendiest hue.
What do you think of Night Watch? Are you ready to crown it the Color of the Year for 2019?
