Small bedroom organization skills for maximum efficiency and style

By Patrick Wilson

Living small has a lot of merits, whether it’s the coziness or effortlessness in cleaning. However, compared with those, the downside is also obvious: lacking space, which may render hoarding issues over time. If you live in a small bedroom like me, it is imperative to learn some organizing tricks to keep the room tidy and functional. From personal experience, I have listed some of the most important tips for your reference.

Declutter

Before anything else, ask yourself a question: Can I remember all the stuff that I have in the room, including clothing, cosmetics, digital gadgets, etc.? If the answer is NO, you probably want to go over all the stuff you have and decide on what to get rid of, because the chances are that you will never use those things that you can’t even remember possessing.

Think like a minimalist and list the essentials for you. After it’s done, then grab a big garbage bag for the things that are of no value to you or other people, like the expired food, waste paper, broken pieces, and so on. Donation is also a great way to get rid of the stuff that we don’t need anymore while saving the environment. Don’t know what to donate? Check out the items that you bought on a whim, or the piece of clothing that you only wore once or twice in the past two years would be a good start.

Plan the Layout

Designate specific zones for sleeping, studying, relaxing, etc. When things are placed in a certain order, it is not only easier to fetch them, but also mentally soothing as it brings the feeling that things are under control. You know how sometimes our mood can be affected by the outside atmosphere, so, do not let your bedroom be a negative source of your life.

Utilize the Vertical Space

Take a good look at all the vertical space that’s been wasted in your room, whether it is the space behind the door, on the wall over the bed, or the blank wall near the ceiling, and decorate them with shelves, or racks based on how you like it. You will be surprised by how much space you can create that way.

For example, it is super useful to put on a utility rack, or a hanging organizer behind the door, where you can put in some small objects, like the scissors, keys, and sunglasses to make sure that they are easy to spot and fetch when you go out. If you are keen to read, instead of bringing room a clumsy floor shelf, why not exploit the space on the wall? And, you can incorporate a multifunctional pegboard to the wall as well for your jewelry. There are numerous ways to make use of the extra space in your room, just unleash your imagination.

Use the Storage Under Bed

Typically, a bed takes up a great part of our room, and in most cases, the place under it is neglected. In a small bedroom, every bit of space should be made the best use of. A great way to take advantage of the room under the bed is to add deep drawers with rollers on, where you can put the bedsheets, linens, blankets, and pillow cases without worrying about how to get them out again.

Sorting

Inside a drawer or closet is where things can get messy, and mixed up. It is advised to compartmentalize the place with boxes of different sizes based on the items they serve. In addition, you can also label those boxes to help you see the items straightforwardly.

In conclusion, living small doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to sacrifice comfortability for space. Follow the above steps to organize a small bedroom to fully explore its potential and make it a welcoming place for you to unwind and recharge in a busy life.
