Believe it or not, 2020 is basically halfway done. And you probably feel like those six months went by unceremoniously, since the days are monotonous and you’re home all the time.

One thing that might be adding to the lethargy and malaise that has characterized many of your recent days is the weight of your undone tasks—the chores, home projects, or life responsibilities that you just haven’t quite buttoned up all the way. The good news about this, though, is that the opposite is also true: Completing an unfinished task has the potential to make you feel light, calm, accomplished, and even a little bit peppy.

This weekend, why not put that premise to the test? There’s nothing to lose and, if nothing else, a checked-off chore to gain.

This Weekend: Finish one thing you want to get done.

Don’t confine your chosen task to a cleaning or organizing one, although by all means, pick one of those if it’ll make you feel good. Choose anything that nags at you or that, accomplished, would make your day-to-day run more smoothly.

Here are some ideas:

Fix the squeaky door.

Fold and put away that growing pile of clean laundry.

Cross the finish line on that DIY project you started.

Clean out the fridge.

Take inventory of your pantry, fridge, and freezer.

Go over your finances.

Start a fresh budget because things have probably changed in that department.

Go through your subscriptions and cancel anything unnecessary.

Print out labels for, package, and mail your returns.

Update your calendar. Reschedule appointments you had to cancel.

Meal plan and order groceries.

Organize your office/art/craft/hobby supplies.

Go through your clothes.

Wash the kids’ lunch bags and backpacks.

What will you choose to finish this weekend? How do you think you’ll feel?

Remember: This is about improvement, not perfection. Each week you can either choose to work on the assignment we’ve sent you, or tackle another project you’ve been meaning to get to. It’s also completely okay to skip a weekend if you’re busy or not feeling the assignment.
