The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Yale University’s Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Connecticut. These iconic structures have one thing in common— Eero Saarinen . The Finnish-American architect is hailed as one of the greatest designers of the 20th century, imbuing his projects with a futuristic flair that became his defining aesthetic. The new documentary Eero Saarinen: The Architect Who Saw the Future , produced and directed by Peter Rosen, examines the life of the modernist architect through the eyes of his son, director of photography Eric Saarinen, who travels across the country to see his father’s works. The film premiered last week at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and will headline opening night at the Architecture and Design Film Festival in New York on September 28. While it will make its national broadcast debut in December on PBS as part of the station’s American Masters series, we’re bringing you an exclusive first look at the documentary, shown below.
