Jean Nouvel’s New Skyscraper Will Rise Above New York’s Museum of Modern Art

Pritzker Prize–winning architect Jean Nouvel has designed New York’s next supertall skyscraper, 53W53, which will stand adjacent to the Museum of Modern Art.

53W53 will reach a height of 1,050 feet. Three of its 82 floors will serve as gallery space for MoMA.

AD100 architect and designer Thierry Despont has devised the interiors of 53W53.

The rest of the building will house 139 condominiums, developed by Hines with partners Goldman Sachs and Pontiac Land Group.

Residents of the tower will have access to this 65-foot lap pool. Other amenities include a golf simulator, a 16-seat theater, a squash court, and a wellness center.

53W53’s tapered exterior will feature an innovative latticed exoskeleton called the diagrid. The building is scheduled to open by 2018.
