Ron Arad Architects Unveils Plans for Israel's Tallest Skyscraper

By Patrick Wilson

For anyone who's walked the streets of Tel Aviv, among the first things you probably noticed were the vast numbers of modest, Bauhaus-inspired buildings. To date, Israel’s second-largest metropolis (behind Jerusalem) has remained architecturally conservative. But times are changing. Tel Aviv is now the start-up capital of the country, attracting thousands of young Israelis to its urban center. That’s why London-based Ron Arad Architects is generating so much buzz with its latest office complex. When completed, the building will stand over 800 feet high, making it the tallest skyscraper in Israel.

Currently under construction in the center of the city, the 19,375-square-foot complex will comprise two glazed towers, one rising 28 stories and the other topping out at 63, as well as public gardens and plazas. Ron Arad—who was born in Israel but founded his architecture firm in the U.K. in 2008—designed the two towers at a certain angle to maximize solar shading for some occupants, thus reducing the structure's carbon footprint. The structure is set for completion in 2018.
