By Patrick Wilson

Architects from more than 30 countries are preparing to descend upon Chicago for the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial, titled “The State of the Art of Architecture.” It will be not only the first architecture biennial in U.S. history but also the largest assembly of international architects ever in North America. Artistic directors Joseph Grima and Sarah Herda have just announced the event’s participants, selected with the help of an advisory council that comprised David Adjaye, Elizabeth Diller, Frank Gehry, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, among others. Some of the inaugural participants include Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), NLÉ, and ArandaLasch.

The event will be held at the Chicago Cultural Center from October 3, 2015, to January 3, 2016. Exhibitions will also be showcased throughout the city at sites like Millennium Park and City Gallery in the historic Chicago Water Tower.
